Some offer affordable sober living home options nearby and others may offer high-end luxury amenity themed housing. Others may be co-ed while the majority of sober living homes are gender specific recovery residences.

Below we will go through the characteristics of sober living homes that offer combined PHP programs.

What is PHP?

PHP is a form of intensive outpatient addiction treatment where the client goes home in the evening and does not stay at the center at night. Typically these programs are about 6 hours per a day and convene 4 to 7 days a week.

What do people do at PHP?

What is the cost of PHP?

Although a person can cash-pay for PHP programs, typically these are covered by the clients insurance and typically has no out of pocket cost to the client unless they have some sort of deductible or co-pay included in their respective health insurance plan.

How do I join a PHP program?

PHP programs in Pennsylvania and beyond typically make it quite easy to join. The perspective client does their research and ideally calls a few places to compare options and see which program is the best fit. They then coordinate with the admissions or intake specialist to register with insurance or cash payment plan and then may start right away. Typically the turn around is 1 - 3 days although it is often dependent on waiting for approval from the clients insurance company.

How long do PHP programs last?

Typically these programs run for 6 weeks, although there is no cookie cutter length of time. It's not uncommon to hear of 30 day programs which is thought to be a minimum for treatment in in-patient and out-patient scenarios. Although there is no definitive amount of time. Most persons in recovery would agree that the longer the addict and/or alcoholic participate in a recovery program the greater their odds of being sober when surveyed 1+ years later.

How do I know if PHP is right for me?

Always consult with your physician first and foremost. If a person finds themselves unable to retain any meaningful amount of time without drugs or alcohol they may be a good candidate for rehabilitation. Furthermore, if an individual finds they obsess about drugs and/or alcohol daily and also in the hours they are dry or abstinent, then they too may be a good candidate for rehabilitation.

What's the difference between inpatient addiction treatment and PHP?

Although there are several differences in any program in-patient or non-inpatient, along with differences between inpatient and PHP besides just leaving the treatment facility in the evening. At a glance, the key differences would be around amount of freedom the client/resident has. While inpatient programs typically limit the resident to activities within the treatment facility, a PHP program may allow certain other freedoms such as continuing to work if schedule permits, more optionality in AA/NA meetings or group outings, and potentially other out of house activities or events.

In Summary

PHP is a great option for individuals to partake in when addiction or alcoholism becomes too much to bear. When the pain to stay the same begins to outweigh the pain of potential change then often those feelings act as a stepping stone to recovery and a life of normality thereafter. As one may hear in many recovery program rooms, a person ought to try recovery because if they don't like it they can always easily be refunded their misery of drinking and/or using.
